Information About Planning A Wedding at
Pleasant Home United Methodist Church
USE OF THE CHURCH BUILDING – Wedding services are provided as a ministry of the church for those who are members or friends of the church or those who live in the area and do not already have a relationship with another church. The church building is not available as a rental hall.
WEDDING LEADERSHIP – The lay pastor and/or pastor emeritus will be in charge of and officiating at all wedding services held in the church building or on the church grounds. Other clergy may be permitted to take part in the wedding service at the discretion of the lay pastor and/or pastor emeritus; their role in the service will be determined by the lay pastor and/or pastor emeritus.
THE WEDDING SERVICE – The Service of Christian Marriage has been established by the United Methodist Church and no changes are permitted. Personal comments may be added in by the lay pastor and/or pastor emeritus. Any other additions are subject to the approval of the lay pastor and/or pastor emeritus.
FIRE & INSURANCE RESTRICTIONS – By order of the Fire Marshal, no smoking is permitted anywhere in the church building. Candles, except for those on the altar and in candelabras, are only permitted if in glass-enclosed containers. Insurance requirements ban the use of alcoholic beverages in the church building or on church grounds, including the parking areas. The couple is required to notify guests and family members of this policy. Violations may result in cancellation of the wedding.
PHOTOGRAPHY – No photography is permitted once the lay pastor and/or pastor emeritus has begun the wedding service, however photographs may be taken as the bridal party enters and leaves the sanctuary. Video photography is permitted, but the equipment must remain stationary in the back (NW corner) of the church sanctuary. After the wedding, photography is permitted in the sanctuary, and any portion of the service will be re-created per request. It is strongly recommended that pictures of the couple be taken after the wedding service, as their appearance will reflect more clearly the commitment they have made.
DECORATING – Only dripless candles are permitted. 15 inch, plain end, light-colored candles are recommended. Nothing may be removed from the sanctuary or other rooms in the church building. No adhesive tape may be used. Push pins are okay. The church building is open two hours prior to the rehearsal for decorating. No rice may be thrown as the couple departs following the wedding. Birdseed is permitted, outside only. The blowing of bubbles is suggested.
RECEPTIONS – Includes use of the Fellowship Hall, table cloths, silver and dishware, food trays, silver set and cut glass punch bowl. Wedding party is responsible to provide food, servers, and handle all clean up.
PASTORAL COUNSELING – Couples must attend at least one pre-marital counseling session with the pastor. Additional sessions may be scheduled as mutually agreed on or as determined by the lay pastor and/or pastor emeritus.
